About the Exhibition

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, middle and high school students in the Iredell–Statesville School System are invited to reflect on the past, present, and future of America through visual art.

AMERICA250 is a juried student exhibition presented by the Iredell Arts Council, with student awards sponsored by Kewaunee, celebrating identity, community, civic life, and imagination. Selected works will be featured in a public exhibition showcasing the voices of young artists from across Iredell County.

Who Can Submit

  • Middle and high school students

  • Must be enrolled in the Iredell–Statesville School System

  • All experience levels welcome

Awards

Sponsored by Kewaunee.
Awards will be given in both Middle School and High School divisions:

  • 1st Place: $125

  • 2nd Place: $75

  • 3rd Place: $50

  • Honorable Mentions will also be recognized

  • (Artists may choose one or more)

    Unity & Community

    Exploring connections between people, cultures, and shared stories.
    Examples include diversity and inclusion, friendship, community gatherings, cultural connections, neighborhoods, families, and symbols of togetherness.

    Civic Engagement


    Reflections on participation, service, and public life.
    Examples include voting, community service, social movements, public servants, youth leadership, and civic moments.

    Heritage & Memory


    Traditions, histories, and memories that shape identity.
    Examples include family traditions, historical events, cultural celebrations, ancestry, monuments, and storytelling.

    Everyday America

    Scenes and moments that define daily life.
    Examples include towns and landscapes, school life, work and hobbies, food, music, sports, and life at home or in the community.

    Future America
    Ideas and visions for the nation’s tomorrow.


    Examples include hope or uncertainty, environmental futures, technology, social change, dreams, or abstract visions of the future.

    • Submission Window: January 13 – February 20

    • Opening Exhibition: March 4

    • Exhibition Run: March 4 – March 27

    • Artwork Pick-Up: March 30

    • Original student-created artwork only

    • All visual art media accepted
      (drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, printmaking, digital art, collage, etc.)

    • Artwork must be suitable for public exhibition

    • Submitted works will be reviewed by professional jurors

    • Not all submissions will be selected for exhibition

    Selected artists will be notified with delivery instructions following the jury process.
